Chris Porter is confident he is joining a 'big club' after agreeing a deal with Championship strugglers Derby County.

The striker will finalise a move to Derby from Motherwell on Monday after accepting a two-and-a-half year contract.

The Rams will pay a fee in the region of £400,000 for Porter, who rejected a switch to Cardiff City in favour of a move to Pride Park.

Outlining his reasons for joining Derby, the former Oldham forward believes the only way is up for Nigel Clough's side.

Blown away

"This is a brilliant club, the ground is better than anything I've played in before and I'm looking forward to it," Porter told the club's official website.

"There were numerous reasons I signed. I came and met the manager, I saw the training facilities, and I was blown away by it all.

"Nigel comes across as a cool-headed, down-to-earth manager and he will turn it around here.

"This is a big club with big history and can only go one way, which will hopefully be to the highest of heights.

"I don't think the football in the Championship is anything too different to what I am used to so hopefully it will be a smooth transition for me here."
