Keane: Set for Ipswich role
Sky Sports News sources understand Roy Keane will be named the new Ipswich Town manager within the next 24 hours.
Ipswich sacked Jim Magilton on Wednesday following the club's failure to make the play-offs in the Championship this season.
New chief executive Simon Clegg told Sky Sports News that Town were close to appointing a successor to Magilton at Portman Road.
Former Sunderland boss Keane is now understood to be on the brink of accepting a return to management with Ipswich.
Keane left his role at the Stadium of Light back in December, having spent just over two years in charge on Wearside.
During his time at the Black Cats helm, Keane led Sunderland from the bottom of the Championship to promotion to the Premier League in his first season.
The Irishman secured a 15th place finish in the top flight last term, but had presided over a disappointing run of form before his exit in early December.
Glenn Hoddle had been installed as the early favourite to take the Ipswich job, however it now appears that Keane will attempt to repeat the success he enjoyed at Sunderland with Ipswich.

Love the way Gary Hollern says Keane wont get the same level of support as he did at Sunderland. Sunderland have some of the most fickle fans in the country with your support over the years up and down like a yo yo! Yes Sunderland are a bigger club than Town but no need for those remarks. If it is Mr Keane then good luck to him, and hold on Town fans i think we could be in for a bumpy ride.

Just another Job for him to walk away from. He hasn't got the bottle when the going gets tough. He walked away from Ireland, Sunderland and Celtic when things got a bit hard. He was used to getting his own way at Man U. He has got an attitude like a spoilt child. Bad choice of manager!

Firstly - Oli Turner! If Ipswich are your local team, how did you come to be a Man Utd fan...hehehe...and aren't Man Utd the local team in your area anyhow... ;) Secondly - good luck Keano, and good luck Ipswich. If you guys have got some cash to splash he can bring in some names (might take Dwight Yorke off us...) and organise a side to get you out of the Championship (upwards, that is - anyone could take a side down). How things might fare once the press or players question his commitment though, only Keano knows - but he'll give it 100% while he's there. Thirdly - a Man Utd fan from Ipswich...? HEHEHEHEHEHEHE Sorry about the cheek - but you set us up for that one didn't you...?

If the Sun's recent article is to be believed then Keane will have a transfer budget of £20 million Now I don't believe that for a moment but give any decent manager £5 - 10 million and they'd get us out of this league I must admit Keane wasn't my first choice but he turned Sunderland around from the bottom of the league, shifted the deadwood and ruffled a few feathers. That's procisely what we need right now. We went backwards under Jim this season despite significant investment. Hopefully Keane can turn us around and get us back to the top flight!

Bad move for Roy i think,at the end of the day his family will still be living in Manchester which will be a major factor. He'll take the job for a bit more experience, but as soon as a club up near Manchester becomes available i reckon he'll jump at it.

As a Town Fan i am very excited by this Appointment. Roy Keane is an extremely competative person. He is a Leader both on and off the pitch. He will make people raise their game and fight for thoir position. He will inspire players to come to the club. So enough of the negativity from some of the Comments people are posting. This is the first time i have been able to say this for a long long while we are now a truly ambitious club once again. Well Done Marcus - You Gave Jim the opportunity and time to succeed. Unfortunately it did not work out but you did your business professionaly. Youve now notched up everything. I predict we will be Champions 2010.

I think this is great news for I.T.F.C. This gives Roy time in the off-season to prepare the team for next season. Hopefully Roy can do the same next season as he did for Sunderland. I think the fan's will get behind there new Manager in the fight to secure EPL football.

Bold move and shows that hopefully we are moving away from the same type of stale manager that has got us noware in the last few seasons. Keane will demand 100% from players and that is something that has been missing from Ipswich for far to long. Also he won't stand for the dispicable way that the local press treated Magilton. Sounds like next season could be one hell of a ride!!

Well, as a long term Sunderland fan and avid follower of football I'm not surprised by this whatsoever! Keane was and always has been a Championship manager so Ipswitch Blues will suite him down to the ground. Eeeeh, if I was a betting person I would put some top dollar on him going up next season and then quitting in dramatic fashion again when the going gets tough, just like he did to us Black Cats. But honest, I'm not bitter. Good luck to him he's a real genuine guy. He made some good signings and I think he can do that again. You all know Big Kenwyne, great albeit a little lazy, he was a Keane gem. Similarly he got us the Cisse and my personal favourite P.Bardsley. He also brought out the best in out Deano which was good to see.

All Keano has to do is get us promoted, first of all. One step at a time... Who's this Sunderland fans saying he won't get the support here, that he got up there?? You do know our owner is a billionaire don't you?? Given the amount of money Jim Magilton was afforded, we should already be promoted - but he failed to bring in the quality of player we needed and never knew what his best XI was. Keane will certainly be able to bring in more high profile/ quality players, and kick the time-wasters in to shape from the current squad. And he's more than welcome to more "if players want to go where their wags can go shopping, let them" rants, if it gets players in and gets results. Inspired choice. Good luck Roy!!

This, if it's true will be great news for Ipswich. Although i'm a Man Utd fan i've always had a soft spot for Ipswich Town and would like to see them back in the prem, certainly better to watch than the likes of Stoke etc. Keano will do wonders for you if your rich owner throws a bit of cash his way. Good luck Keano, always a legend in my eyes!

Why would Keane take a job like Ipswich? I thought Hoddle would have been offered the job.

Wouldn't be my first choice, I can see a few negatives to his appointment. Of course, being a Town fan I would love to be proved wrong but only time will tell. Only hope he's learnt from his past mistakes and can take some stick because Town are a club with high expectations especially with "Marcus' Millions".

It would be great to see Keane as manager of Ipswich town. They are my local club so to see such a legend week in week out would be great. Aswell as him hopefully putting town back into the top flight.

Not that impressed to be honest. I thought we wanted a "winner"? Whilst Keane was a winner on the pitch, he certainly isn't off it and walked away from Sunderland when the going got tough.

Markus Coverdale says...
This is not the right job for Keane. He's used to being at clubs like Man U & Sunderland who clearly have spending power and compete in the transfer market. He's get frustrated pretty quickly when he's refused when big players refuse to drop to the championship or when he's refused big money for players. I also question his commitment here. I wish Ipswich good luck but I question this!

Good news for Ipswich as he will have learned from his mistakes with us and will be a good manager. What is the chances of him buying Mcshane and the rest of the rubbish players he bought from us for inflated prices. He done wonders for Sunderland but tried to move too fast
