Ferguson: Loyalty rewarded
Darren Ferguson is to be offered a contract extension at Peterborough in the wake of his rejection of West Brom's advances.
The highly-rated young manager was coveted by the Baggies prior to their appointment of Roberto Di Matteo but made it clear from the outset he would not be quitting London Road.
After turning down an interview with West Brom last week, Ferguson's loyalty is set to be rewarded with club chairman Darren MacAnthony to discuss an improved deal next week for the manager, who is midway through a four-year contract.
"My jet lands at 8am next Wednesday in Spain and I have meetings scheduled all day with directors of the club," MacAnthony told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.
"Then I'm meeting the manager to discuss his new contract as promised when we spoke at the final game of the season. I find it a massive compliment that he turned down even speaking to West Brom as he was their No.1 choice.
"It's refreshing to have that kind of loyalty at our club and bodes well for next season."
Meanwhile, Posh winger Chris Whelpdale is set to miss the start of the season after being booked in for a hernia operation.
The 22-year-old took part in the first days of pre-season, but struggled and has consequently been booked in for surgery immediately. He is not expected to be fit for the opening fixture against Derby on 8th August due to a minimum four-week recuperation period.
