Reading midfielder Jay Tabb has vowed to fight for his place in Brendan Rodgers' starting Xl.

The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the Madejski Stadium in what has been a largely unforgettable season so far.

Reading have suffered a woeful start to their Championship campaign, slipping to fourth-bottom of the table having accrued just 10 points in 11 games.

Tabb has failed to make even the subs bench for the last two fixtures as Rodgers attempts to find the answer to his side's poor run.

The Coventry man has, though, vowed to fight for his place in the Royals line-up despite admitting that competition is rife.

"We have 26 players in our squad and everyone wants to be playing. Unfortunately, that's not possible," he told the Chronicle.

"I admit it's frustrating but that's the life of a footballer. When you are in the team and winning it's all good, when you aren't it is not so good.

"But I still enjoy training under Brendan and I love being at the club. I've got to take it on the chin, keep working hard and hopefully my chance will come again."

Tabb holds hopes of making the line-up for Reading's trip to the Hawthorns where a result is crucial.

"It would be nice to be in the squad when we play West Brom but if not is because there are a lot of good midfielders at the club.

"I know how good they are because I've played against many of them in the past and I see them in training every day."
