Brentford's on-loan defender James Wilson is keen to impress Bristol City boss Gary Johnson as he hopes to earn a chance at Ashton Gate one day.

The Wales Under 21 international has impressed for Brentford since joining the League One club in August for a second loan spell.

However, Wilson has told skysports.com that his long-term ambition is to earn a place in the starting XI at Bristol City.

"Well, obviously Bristol City play in a division higher than Brentford so ideally I would like to go back there and earn a place in the first team at Ashton Gate, but you never know what opportunities can arise in football," said Wilson.

"That is the main aim for me at the moment, though, to impress Gary Johnson with my performances for Brentford and get a chance to catch the eye at Bristol City.

"They've (Brentford) never spoke to me about making the deal a permanent one and it is just a case of going out on loan and getting some more football under my belt.

"I'm loving it at the moment, but it would be nice to put a few more wins on the board."

The 20-year-old is no stranger to Griffin Park, after helping the Bees seal promotion from League Two last season, and his previous experiences at the club made it much easier for him to settle in this season.

He added: "It did make it easier to settle in because I knew all the staff and most of the lads from last season, so it was just like returning home in a sense.

"I wasn't involved in the first team at Bristol City, so when the chance to come back here came up I jumped at it."
