Bristol City's quest for a new stadium has been handed a boost after the council recommended the approval of plans.

The Robins have identified land in the Ashton Vale area of the city for a new 30,000-seater stadium and the local council have endorsed the proposed plans in a 139-page document.

A club statement read: "Bristol City Football Club is pleased the officers have recommended our application for a new stadium on greenbelt land at Ashton Vale. This is a very significant recommendation.

"There are a number of matters that still need resolution, including the pedestrian access to the stadium.

"We are confident with the co-operation from Bristol City Council and Network Rail that a satisfactory solution can be achieved at relatively short order."
