Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies has questioned the role of the club's 'acquisitions committee'.

The Scot feels his position at the City Ground is being undermined by the board's reluctance to grant him sole responsibility for transfer dealings.

He feels the presence of former Tottenham manager David Pleat as a 'special football advisor' makes his job all the more demanding.

Davies believes that as he is the one with his neck on the chopping block, chairman Nigel Doughty should have more faith in his ability.

He said in The Sun: "The way I see it is quite simple. The manager should always have the final say on transfers and nobody else, whatever their previous pedigree in the game.

"When you boil it all down, people like myself are the ones in the spotlight. Depending on results, we get a pat on the back or we get the sack.

"I don't believe there should be such a creature as a so-called acquisitions committee at this club or any club. It just delays me in my work, and can also lead to obvious confusion when trying to bring in new players.

"And there's another dimension to all this - as things stand I don't even have a single clue as to what my budget might be for when the window opens. Is it £1million, £3m or £5m?

"Perhaps I'm kidding myself, perhaps it's nothing. But it would be very helpful to know."
