Peterborough have made approaches for Brentford boss Andy Scott and Kettering chief Mark Cooper about the vacant manager's job at London Road.

The Posh are searching for a new manager following the shock departure of Darren Ferguson earlier this week.

The Championship side failed in an approach for Bournemouth's Eddie Howe and they have now turned their attentions to Scott and Cooper.

Scott is highly-regarded in football circles following his work at Griffin Park.

The 37-year-old was handed the Brentford job in January 2008 after impressing on a caretaker basis and in his first full season in charge he guided the side to the League Two title.

Brentford chairman Greg Dyke has confirmed they have been sounded out by Peterborough, but remains hopeful of keeping Scott at Griffin Park.

"There was an approach from Peterborough earlier in the week, but as yet I have heard nothing further on the matter," Dyke told the Hounslow and Brentford Times.

"My understanding is they are working through a shortlist of four candidates.

"You'd have to ask Andy if managing Peterborough - who are bottom of the Championship - is a better job."

Cooper is regarded as one of the best managers outside the Football League and he has guided Kettering to the second round of the FA Cup this season.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony is keen to have a new manager in charge by the weekend and he will be hoping to be given permission to speak to Scott as he looks to lure him to London Road.
