Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed that they are close to bringing a young Premier League player in on loan.

The Owls have been linked with Stoke City's Tom Soares, but Laws refused to comment on whether the former Crystal Palace midfielder was his number one target.

However, he told skysports.com that he is working hard to bring a player in that would help sharpen up their attacking prowess, as the Owls have only scored six goals in their last eight games.

"We are trying to bring a new face or two in before the weekend because we are low on numbers and we feel that we need to strengthen the side. We are working extremely hard to try and make that happen before the loan window closes [on Thursday]," Laws told skysports.com.

"We are hoping to strengthen the midfield/forward line because basically we need goals to win games and that is what we are focused on at the moment.

"We are identifying Premier League players as our targets, but we are mainly looking at the younger element because we just can't afford the more experienced players in the top-tier.

"We are waiting for confirmation from the clubs that we have been speaking too, but we are under a lot of competition for these players as well."
