Paulo Sousa felt Swansea had produced one of their worst performances of the season despite beating Plymouth 1-0.

Lee Trundle scored the only goal of the game early in the second half after coming on as a substitute at the interval.

But Sousa could take few other positives from the game after Swansea toiled for long periods against a side struggling towards the bottom of the Championship table.

"It is a good result for us but it was one of our worst displays of the season," said the Swansea manager.

"Winning when not playing well will make us a strong team but today we missed a lot of our passes.

"Converting chances makes life easier for us and we didn't do that today but we are now looking forward to our next game.

"Winning helps you to recover quickly both physically and mentally."

Of the decision to start with Trundle on the bench, he added: "Besian Idrizaj has been working well in training and I thought it was the right move to start the game with him, but it needed changing at half-time.

"We switched to 4-4-2 and it gave us more presence in the box. We need to score goals and Lee Trundle gives us something at front."

Sturrock reaction

Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock was left to rue another narrow loss after Rory Fallon squandered a couple of opportunities to get on the scoresheet.

Sturrock said: "This is a difficult place to come as Swansea have very good players who can pass the ball and we could have been behind in the first minute.

"But we had two great chances for Rory Fallon and we should have scored from at least one of them.

"On goal attempts we were probably on a par with Swansea but that is now three single-goal defeats in a row for us.

"I seem to say the same things after every game but we are having a club meeting on Thursday and hopefully we can go forward from there."
