Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll has confirmed talks are ongoing to extend Wolves defender Jason Shackell's loan deal.

Shackell has made 17 appearances for Rovers to date, but is currently due to return to Wolves on New Year's Day.

He is on the transfer list at Molineux and O'Driscoll is hoping to reach a compromise with the Premier League side to enable the 26-year-old to stay at the Keepmoat Stadium.

"We are in talks with Wolves," O'Driscoll told the club's official website.

"They - like Sheffield United with Billy Sharp - would like to recoup their outlay. That's their prerogative; not helping Doncaster Rovers.

"However, I think that both parties are sensible to know that him going back and playing reserve-team football is not going to help them realise some value.

"He's doing very well for us and I think that everybody is now looking at their options. I think that Jason would be delighted to stay for the rest of the season, so who knows what might happen.

"Jason's loan ends on January 1st, so he would be unavailable for the Cup game. Everybody wants to come out of this with a win-win situation; nobody wants to get one over on anybody."
