Derby County striker Luke Varney is keen to return to Sheffield Wednesday following the end of his loan deal.

Varney has spent the first half of the season on loan at Hillsborough and scored four goals in 19 Championship appearances for the club.

He is now back at Derby and is waiting to find out whether he will be moved on again by Rams boss Nigel Clough during the January transfer window.

A return to the Owls appeals to the 27-year-old, although he is unsure whether caretaker manager Sean McAuley will want to re-sign him.

"This is a great club and I would have no hesitation in coming back and extending my loan," Varney told the Sheffield Star.

"But I don't know if I can come back until I go back to Derby where I have still got a long contract.

"I also don't know how Sean feels about it, but we will see what happens in the future."
