Cardiff midfielder Stephen McPhail is looking forward to getting back on the pitch after having treatment for cancer.

The Bluebirds announced in November that McPhail had been diagnosed with Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue (MALT) Lymphoma.

The 30-year-old has now completed radiotherapy treatment in Dublin and has set his sights on a return to football.

McPhail, who is also recovering from a thigh injury, believes he could be pulling on a Cardiff shirt again by the end of January.

"I finished my treatment on Christmas Eve and everything is good," he told the club's official website.

"I will be in recovery mode for the next couple of weeks, waiting for my immune system to get back working properly again.

"I hate missing matches and watching matches when I feel I should be playing. I want to be playing and maybe I will in three or four weeks, that's the aim anyway.

"The old year has had it's ups and downs for me, but it's a fresh start now. I can't wait to get back and help Cardiff push for promotion."
