On-loan Derby midfielder Lee Johnson is hoping to make an impact at Pride Park after moving from Bristol City.

The 28-year-old, who is son of Robins boss Gary Johnson, moved to Derby at the beginning of January in a one-month deal, and made his debut in the FA Cup against Millwall.

He admits Bristol City may not want to let him leave permanently, but he just hopes to play well during his time with Derby.

"Things in football can change very quickly and there were a few clubs which showed interest in me after I was left on the bench for a few games," he told skysports.com.

"However, when Derby came in for me on New Year's Eve, I knew that that was the club I wanted to go on loan with because it is such a big club with a great stadium and fanbase.

"I still want to nudge my way into the Scotland setup and if you aren't playing regularly for your club then you've got no chance of doing that, so I jumped at the chance to get some games at Derby instead of sitting on the bench at Bristol City.

"That (long-term future) is down to the powers that be really, but I'm an old-school type of footballer that likes to be playing games regularly, so I'll just see how things go at Derby.

"I don't think Bristol City want me to leave permanently at the moment, so as long as I play well during my time at Derby then things will happen for me, whether it be at Bristol City or elsewhere."

Johnson could play a part in Derby's Championship tie against fellow strugglers Scunthorpe on Saturday.
