Ferguson: Preston boss
Preston have confirmed the appointment of Darren Ferguson as their new manager.
The former Peterborough boss has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at Deepdale after being brought in to replace the axed Alan Irvine.
Skysports.comrevealed on Tuesday that the son of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was poised to take the helm, and his new role has now been confirmed.
Ferguson left London Road in November and has been linked with a number of roles since, with the Lilywhites managing to secure his signature.
North End dispensed with the services of Irvine in late December after a slump in form, despite reaching the play-off semi-finals last season.
Ferguson, who will be assisted by Kevin Russell and Scott Taylor, inherits a side eight points clear of the relegation places and a similar margin adrift of the top six.
The highly-rated young manager will be at the helm for the first time in Saturday's home Championship meeting with Doncaster, with a glamour FA Cup meeting with Chelsea and a rapid return to Posh to follow later this month.
A statement on the club's official website read: "The 37-year-old Scot takes charge of the Lilywhites after signing a three-and-a-half-year deal at Deepdale and brings with him his former Peterborough coaching team Kevin Russell and Scott Taylor."

I think that this is a terrible appointment. Why is Darren Ferguson a highly-rated manager? Earlier in the season Barry Fry said they would want millions in compensation if a bigger club wanted him - yet 2 months later they, in theory, sack him. This is the same type of appointment as Paul Simpson and he failed miserably. Another cheap solution by the Directors & Chairman. Also, I think I fell into a coma listening to him in his press conference yesterday - Mogadon man!!

Young Manager with a bad record but a Father Just up the Road with a record that beats all other Managers of the day, i wonder if Old Fergie will help out Young Fergie with some his stars that cant get in the first team at Utd, maybe Young Fergie might lend his Dad some Preston Players the way utd are playing at the moment.

is this really a good signing???there is no doubt that he did a fantastic job with peterborough getting them promoted twice, but they are currently bottom of the championship, which begs the question can he manage and cope in this league. i hope he can do the job for us and finally get us promotion to the promised land.it will be interesting to see if we get one or 2 man utd fringe players. just hope he doesnt get us in a similar situation like simpson left us in after he achieved success at lower levels

I wonder when Hemmings and Sir Alex did this on the golf course? Disgusting way to treat Irvine who put everything he could into our club with what we have. Hopefully Hemmings is finally going to dive into his wallet and give us some money to get out of this division the right end.

Pleased to see DF getting a new job, was really gutted he wasn't handed the Wrexham job before he left for Peterborough, maybe we wouldn't still be in the Blue Square if he'd have been in charge. All the best Darren
