Preston chairman Derek Shaw is refusing to confirm or deny whether Celtic have tabled a bid for defender Sean St Ledger.

The 25-year-old had been set to join Middlesbrough permanently after a loan spell, however, the deal failed to materialise.

St Ledger has been linked with a move to SPL giants Celtic, but Shaw insists his focus recently has been on their new manager.

Preston named Darren Ferguson as their new man at the helm on a three-and-a-half-year deal on Wednesday following Alan Irvine's exit.

Rumours

Celtic are reportedly mulling over using Gary Caldwell and Stephen McManus as possible makeweights in a move for St Ledger.

Shaw admits he has heard one or two rumours surrounding St Ledger's future, although he fully expects him to be a Preston player this weekend.

"I have heard one or two things about Sean St Ledger but I have had my head buried in the appointment of a new manager for the past eight days," explained Shaw.

"I have nothing to discuss with regards to St Ledger and I fully expect to see the player lining up for Preston when we face Doncaster on Saturday."
