Coventry boss Chris Coleman has confirmed that he is in talks to secure the permanent signing of Leon Barnett.

The 24-year-old central defender has been on loan at the Ricoh Arena from West Bromwich Albion and has performed well during his temporary spell.

Barnett has admitted he would like to seal a permanent move to City and Coleman has now confirmed that they are trying to push through a deal.

"We are trying to get Leon. We would like to do something," Coleman told the Coventry Telegraph.

"We have had some conversations with West Brom and I have spoken to Leon as well and if we can reach an agreement it will be a real good signing for us.

"I think he's keen to come. He wants to play football and he's enjoyed his time here. But if there is a club bigger than us they might come in and nick him."

Coleman has already been busy during the transfer window, completing a move for Irish midfielder Gary Deegan while also closing in on deals for Carlisle forward Gary Madine and Stockport midfielder Carl Baker.
