Bristol City midfielder Paul Hartley has apologised to assistant manager Keith Millen after their weekend bust-up.

Hartley conceded a penalty in the 21st minute as the Robins went down 2-0 to Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday, after a shove on Royals striker Gylfi Sigurdsson.

He clashed with Millen during a break in play but has now issued an apology to City's number two.

"It was just frustrating and a few things were said over things that had happened in the game," he told The Sun.

"I wasn't happy, he wasn't happy and we both made our point.

"Football leaves you on the edge at times, but it was all in the heat of the moment. I've apologised and it's all forgiven and forgotten now."

The defeat leaves Bristol City 14th in the Championship, with play-off hopes fading as the season draws to a climax.

Hartley, 33, admits his side deserved to lose at Reading, and the Scot has no complaints about the penalty he conceded.

He added: "We didn't start the game well and Reading deserved to win. We didn't create many chances. In the second half we had a bit more about us, but it wasn't a great performance from us.

"I've no complaints about the penalty, although I thought maybe it might have been on the edge of the box.

"I was trying to nick the ball, but it was a clumsy challenge.

"It's one of those things although I am very disappointed. I did clear one off the line, but it didn't really matter as we were 2-0 down. It was just sloppy."
