Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell has suffered another injury blow with the news that Darius Henderson needs hamstring surgery.

The striker missed the final two games of last season due to the injury, but underwent corrective surgery before returning to pre-season training.

However, the 28-year-old has failed to regain full fitness and now he needs further surgery that will reattach part of the hamstring to the bone.

Blackwell, who has already lost Simon Walton and Lee Williamson, will now be without Henderson for the first four months of the season.

"Losing an important member of the squad like Darius is a blow and we wish him well with his rehabilitation," Blackwell told the Yorkshire Post.

"Our squad is not the biggest in terms of quantity but we have other quality forwards who are keen to find the target in the early-season matches."
