Burnley boss Brian Laws remains hopeful of keeping key midfielder Chris Eagles at Turf Moor.

Eagles' future at Burnley has been the subject of speculation with the former Manchester United youngster turning down a move to Rangers earlier this month.

The 24-year-old has only 12 months to run on his current contract and Laws insists they will not let the skilful midfielder run down his deal and leave on a free transfer.

Burnley hope to tie down Eagles to a new deal otherwise he will be sold before the close of the transfer window

"Chris is just getting his head down and focusing on football at the moment," Laws told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

"Obviously Chris' contract runs out next summer and we cannot allow his contract to run down.

"So one of two things has to happen. Either he re-signs, which we would be absolutely delighted with, or he moves on.

"We're waiting for Chris and his advisor to get back to us at the moment on what he wants to do."
