Barnsley manager Mark Robins was pleased to see his side end a 12-game winless run to beat Crystal Palace.

The Tykes won the match 1-0 at Oakwell thanks to an own goal from Palace defender Patrick McCarthy, taking a considerable amount of pressure off their manager.

Robins' team suffered a poor start to the season after a 4-0 drubbing by QPR in their opening game and an exit from the Carling Cup at the hands of League One Rochdale.

However, the 40-year-old felt that this result could signal a turning point in his team's fortunes.

"I thought we were decent, especially after the week we've had. I love watching them in training, I think their movement is good and when they settle down and really start to believe they'll be a really good side," he said.

Important

"It's important to get a win because you've got all the outside pressures which are heaped upon you.

"We're trying to make a big, big change from what was here before and I think you could see signs of it, but it's not what they're capable of producing.

"We kept Palace very quiet and restricted them to nothing.

"The only disappointing thing was that we had to rely on an own goal.

"I would have loved one of our boots to have put the finishing touch to that move. But it will give the lads confidence to carry on and really have a go."

Burley disappointed

Eagles boss George Burley complained about his side's inability to take opportunities, singling out key man Darren Ambrose as having a definite off day.

"The Championship is a tough league week-in, week-out and we had half chances, one or two chances, but we just couldn't get in," he said.

"I think we had a lot of shots but we just didn't get them on target.

"Darren had four or five. You couldn't find a better player than Darren, but today it wasn't the case. We just couldn't get our finishing act together."
