Eddie Nolan is hoping to go one better this season and help Scunthorpe United maintain their Championship status for another year.

The Republic of Ireland international was part of the Sheffield Wednesday side which tasted relegation on the final day of last season.

However, the full-back, who is on loan at the Iron until January from Championship rivals Preston, revealed that he is desperate not to suffer the same experience again this season.

"Tasting relegation with Sheffield Wednesday is not an experience I want to be having again during my career if possible, but at the same time it has made me a better player and hopefully I can help Scunthorpe steer well clear of that this season," Nolan told skysports.com.

"I've learned a lot from my time at Sheffield Wednesday because there is always a lot of pressure playing for such a big club, but that intensified last season when they started to get sucked into the relegation mix and that should stand me in good stead in the long run.

"Maintaining this club's Championship status again is definitely the main target and we know it is going to be tough because this division is always a tough one to do well in.

"Anyone can beat anyone on their day, but we've got a lot of quality within the squad and if we can continue to play like we have been then we should be fine when it comes down to latter stages of the campaign."
