Marlon King's agent has admitted the striker would love to relaunch his football career with Coventry City.

King was released from jail last month after serving nine months for assaulting a woman in a London nightclub.

The 30-year-old frontman has been looking at options for resuming his career and has been in talks with Coventry manager Aidy Boothroyd.

The Sky Blues boss was in charge at Watford when King enjoyed the best spell of his career, scoring 21 goals in 41 games during the 2005/06 season to help the Hornets win promotion to the Premier League.

King attended Saturday's win against Derby at the Ricoh Arena with his family and agent, Tony Finnigan, who believes the prospect of linking up again with Boothroyd makes Coventry his most likely destination.

Special relationship

"It's very important to be able to work with somebody you trust on and off the pitch," he told the Coventry Telegraph.

"Marlon and Aidy had a very special relationship and that's definitely a big factor - the biggest factor.

"I remember the journey at Watford very well; it was a wonderful, wonderful period and I'm sure he'd love to rekindle that.

"The guy wants to play some football and be part of something special and Coventry ticks all those boxes," Finnigan added.

"I was really, really impressed. We kept saying in the box 'look at this place - the stadium, the facilities, the crowd'."

Boothroyd bought King from Nottingham Forest for £500,000 in January 2006 after a successful loan spell and he sold the former Jamaica international to Wigan for £5million in January 2008.

King then fell out of favour at Wigan and was loaned to Hull and Middlesbrough during the 2008/09 season before being sacked by the Latics when he was sentenced last October.
