Coventry City are on the verge of signing striker Marlon King, according to manager Aidy Boothroyd.

The controversial 30-year-old forward was released from prison last month after serving time for assaulting a woman in a nightclub.

He is now looking to get his career back on track and Boothroyd, who managed King when he was in charge of Watford, has revealed a deal is close.

"The situation with Marlon is still ongoing," Boothroyd told the Coventry Telegraph. "But we are quite close now and it's getting closer.

Tests

"We're talking and we've had him in to do some tests on him.

"We always like to be thorough so we do a lot of tests on our players, and I wanted to see where he is in comparison should we press the button and should he wish to come.

"We want to make sure he's right if we can get this over the line - and I think he would be absolutely fantastic for us if we can do that."

London-born King has had recent spells in the top flight after being loaned to Hull City and Middlesbrough, but was sacked by Wigan after his conviction.
