Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd has said defender Richard Wood is not for sale amidst reports Sheffield United are to table a bid.

The Blades have been linked with a move for the former Sheffield Wednesday centre-half, who signed for Coventry on a permanent basis in the January transfer window.

Boothroyd, though, insists the 25-year-old is not for sale and has warned off any club considering a move.

The Sky Blues boss said he is yet to receive an offer for Wood but stated that no amount would prise him away from the Ricoh Arena.

"I haven't had an enquiry but Richard Wood wouldn't be for sale - definitely not," he told the Coventry Telegraph.

"He's a terrific player and I'm certainly not looking to get rid of him."

Stay patient

Meanwhile, Boothroyd has sought to reassure James McPake that he is still a part of his plans despite not having figured in the Sky Blues' first three Championship fixtures.

"It's a difficult one because professional footballers want to play," said Boothroyd, whose side are unbeaten in their early campaign.

"You can only keep so many players who are out of the team happy.

"James will get his chance," he added. "It's just a question of being patient and biding his time until he gets back into the side."

McPake will be amongst a number of players looking to break into the squad for Saturday's daunting trip to Millwall.
