Preston chairman Maurice Lindsay has revealed manager Darren Ferguson was in talks to bring in a deadline day signing but was foiled by the 6pm cut-off.

The North End boss had hoped to bring one of his top targets to Deepdale on Tuesday but was beaten by the clock.

The Lilywhites had been in the market for fresh faces after making a slow start to the new Championship season.

Lindsay admits the club were left frustrated at seeing their efforts come up short, but has hinted that the interest could yet be rekindled.

"We were in negotiations all day with regard to bringing a player in," Lindsay told the Lancashire Evening Post.

"We weren't able to conclude that one but there's a chance we could follow it up as a possible loan at some point."
