Sharp: Fitness race
Doncaster forward Billy Sharp has told skysports.com that the international week has fallen perfectly for him.
The 24-year-old striker has been hampered by a couple of fitness concerns this season and recognises that he has not been on top of his game so far.
He picked up a thigh injury towards the end of the last campaign, suffered a groin injury in pre-season and then most recently took a knock to his calf in training.
Having decided to stay at the Keepmoat Stadium over the summer after a season-long loan last year, Sharp is frustrated to have had these twinges.
But he now has time to get back into peak condition ahead of Rovers' next Championship game at Watford on 11th September.
"The international break has come at the right time for me as I've not been 100 per cent so far yet," he said.
"That is the main thing on my mind, and with the extra week without a game, I'm very hopeful that I will be back to full fitness."
It has not been just the former Sheffield United and Scunthorpe player who has suffered at Doncaster though - there have been no less than six players on the treatment table during the last fortnight.
Sharp continued: "Injuries have affected the team at the moment and we can recover as a squad over this time now.
"John Oster is back, but is not fully fit and he's just one of the players who've been out.
"The next three games coming up for us will be played over six days, so we will definitely be needing as many of the squad as fit as possible, as I'm certain the same 11 players will not be playing those fixtures."
