Reading boss Brian McDermott is still looking to add to his squad and is keeping close tabs on the market.

The Royals had been hoping to bolster their ranks before the summer transfer window slammed shut, but were left frustrated in their efforts.

There is, however, still an opportunity to bring players in on loan, and that could prove to be a productive approach to take.

McDermott insists he is keen to see what is available before committing to any deals, but admits he would be keen to bring in extra bodies - with the £7million sale of Gylfi Sigurdsson providing him with a useful kitty.

He told the Reading Evening Post: "We're still in the frame if something comes our way, we can do it now because of Gylfi. We're watching closely to see what happens.

"We did make an offer for somebody. We were close but we couldn't do it and we missed out.

"I can't say who, but we know who is available and won't bring in a player in haste. We know the market."
