Doncaster Rovers midfielder James Coppinger has signed a new contract to stay at the Keepmoat Stadium until 2013.

The 29-year-old joined Rovers from Exeter in 2004 and the club have rewarded their longest-serving player with an extension.

He has scored once in four Championship appearances so far this season and is hoping Doncaster can improve upon last term's 12th-placed finish.

"You are going to lose games; it's inevitable," Coppinger told the Sheffield Star. "It is how you react to a defeat which helps determine where you are going to finish.

"We've got high standards and the expectation levels have risen.

"We've done well in the last few seasons and we want to equal, if not better, where we finished."

The Guisborough-born midfielder has seen Rovers rise up through the divisions, becoming an integral part of the team, with his finest hour coming when he scored a hat-trick against Southend in the 2008 League One play-offs.

Those goals took Rovers to the Wembley final where they saw off Leeds United 1-0 to gain promotion.
