Preston's Andy Lonergan believes he is the most over-worked goalkeeper in the Championship.

The Lilywhites, who have endured a torrid 2010/11 campaign, have certainly been far from watertight at the back this term.

They have shipped 46 goals in 25 outings and currently sit seven points adrift of second tier safety.

Lonergan admits it has been a tough time for the club's defensive unit, but feels a collective effort under new boss Phil Brown can help to turn their season around.

He said: "There was a stat last season that somebody told me that I saved around 20 more shots than any other goalkeeper in the league, which shows that we were defending a lot.

"This season has been the same. I think Darren Ferguson gave us a stat that on average, 28 crosses a game were coming into our box. The average in the league is about 14 so we were defending a lot.

"If you are defending that many crosses and shots then you are going to concede. I think that the gaffer knows all of this, he is very into his stats and he is trying to stop this happening."
