Leeds boss Simon Grayson praised winger Max Gradel after the player's inspired performance helped them to a 5-2 win over Doncaster.

In an exciting affair at Elland Road, Gradel scored twice and gave the defence a torrid time to help the Whites to their first victory in four games and help consolidate their position in the Championship play-off places.

Billy Sharp and Franck Moussa ensured that the visitors went in at half-time 2-1 up after cancelling out Gradel's opener.

But two goals from Johnny Howson, another from Luciano Becchio and Gradel's second ensured victory for Grayson's side, and he paid tribute to Gradel and his players for their response.

"He (Gradel) just epitomises what this team is about. He's got quality but also a great work ethic," said Grayson.

"The way he chases down defenders and works rubs off on his team-mates and he is a breath of fresh air, a joy to work with.

"He's reaping the rewards for his endeavour and enthusiasm and he's a great lad to work with."

"The game should have been won by half-time. We were disappointed when it was 1-1 at half-time and even worse when it was 2-1.

"But the players showed great spirit and determination and I thought we were outstanding. It could have been any score.

"We wasted good opportunities, got hit with the sucker punch for the second goal, but in the end it was a deserved victory."

Grayson also added that he may try and bring a player in on loan before the loan transfer window expires ahead of their visit to Preston on Tuesday.

"I was ringing around yesterday and will be ringing around tomorrow, hopefully we might bring someone in but we will have to wait and see."

Rovers reaction

Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll admitted that his side defended poorly, but hailed their opponents and backed them to secure a play-off spot.

"But the manner of the goals in the second half disappointed me," said O'Driscoll.

"To concede a goal 30 seconds after you've scored and when you look at the DVD we weren't even ready for the kick-off, in this division you can't switch off especially against a quality side like Leeds.

"Credit to them, they've created chances all afternoon and their front six is probably as good as anything in the league.

"And on today's showing they'll be a side that you wouldn't mind a bet on being in the play-offs, and anyone who gets in the play-offs has got a chance."
