Skysports.com understands that Leeds are lining up a move for Preston goalkeeper Andy Lonergan.
Leeds boss Simon Grayson has said he was on the look-out for a new keeper even before he agreed to sell Kasper Schmeichel to Leicester last month.
Grayson has already moved to bring in Paul Rachubka from Blackpool but he wants greater competition for the keeper's jersey.
Another experienced keeper would fit the bill and Lonergan has emerged as Leeds' top target.
The 27-year-old has spent his entire career with Preston and was named the club's player of the year in 2008/09 and 2009/10.
And although the local lad fell out of favour as the Lilywhites were relegated last season, he has 207 Championship appearances under his belt with Preston.
Lonergan has another two years on his contract but it is thought North End would be willing to sell at the right price.
