FOREST SET TO MAKE ROBERTS BID

NOTTINGHAM FOREST could be set to launch a bid for Bristol Rovers` want-away striker Jason Roberts.

The 22-year-old Grenadian international scored 22 goals lasts season, but he handed in a transfer request last week and now looks set to leave the Memorial Ground.

The Pirates have already turned down a £2 million bid for Roberts from Birmingham City, and David Platt is hoping to snatch the striker from underneath the nose of Trevor Francis.

"We have had Jason Roberts watched," said Platt. "He looks a very good player.

"We are looking for people who will suit us and there is no doubt he is a goal-scorer."

Forest currently have Stern John, Jack Lester and Dougie Freedman, but Platt still thinks the City Ground club are lacking a proven goal-scorer.

Roberts` partner up-front Jamie Cureton is not surprised that his striker partner has asked for a move, commenting: "He wants to play at a higher level and prove himself there, and he wants to do it as soon as possible because he's hungry and eager to get on.

"I think his mind may have been made up a while ago and he was probably hoping something would happen before now so it didn't come to the stage where he would have to ask for a transfer."
