MANAGERS REJECT ROBERTS INTEREST

BOTH Birmingham City manager Trevor Francis and Nottingham Forest boss David Platt have ruled out a move for highly-rated Bristol Rovers striker Jason Roberts.

Francis had been seeking a striker this summer, and had made a £2 million bid for the 22-year-old, but since he secured the services of Fulham hit-man Geoff Horsfield for next season, he no longer needs a new frontman.

"Jason Roberts has a great future ahead of him, but with the arrival of Geoff Horsfield he is no longer of any interest to me," confirmed the Blues boss.

Meanwhile, Forest boss Platt seems to have had a change of heart regarding the Rovers striker, having previously stated that he was interested in signing the player. Click here to read our report.

The former Aston Villa player has now claimed that he has not been watching Roberts, and denied reports linking him with any bid.

"It's been written that I'm interested in Jason, but I've never really been to see him play and I have never expressed an interest," said Platt.

However, the City Ground boss did admit that: "We are looking to bring someone in who can score goals."

This latest twist in the Jason Roberts transfer saga may be beneficial for relegated Wimbledon, who are now rumoured to be interested in signing the player, as they look to replace Carl Cort, who left Selhurst Park to join Newcastle United this summer.
