West Brom 1 Birmingham 1

WEST BROM and Birmingham City shared the spoils after a bruising Midlands derby at The Hawthorns.

Neil Clement was fortunate not to receive a red card after a dreadful tackle on Paul Devlin, and there was no quarter asked or given.

Stern John was frustrated by Russell Hoult but, at the other end, Igor Balis's drive beat Nico Vaesen but came back off a post.

The visitors should have gone in front when John hit the woodwork, and Hoult pulled off a miraculous double save to thwart Geoff Horsfield and Clinton Morrison from the ensuing scramble.

Olivier Tebily was red carded for bringing down Jason Roberts ahead of a frantic finale.

Hoult blotted his copybook when spilling the ball at his near post, and Darren Moore inexplicably prodded it into his own net.

It should have been enough to hand The Baggies victory but the ten men hit back moments later when Neil Clement set up Roberts for a lovely right footed finish past Vaesen.
