Championship Round-Up

A late Olivier Tebily own goal gave Leeds a priceless 3-2 win over Birmingham City, while Southampton got the better of Burnley in a five-goal thriller at Turf Moore.

John Carver began life as Leeds' caretaker manager with a much-needed success over high-flying Birmingham City at Elland Road.

Leeds were off to a flyer when David Healy netted, however a calamitous own goal by Tony Warner levelled matters just minutes later.

Healy restored Leeds' lead from the penalty spot and the game should have been safe when Damien Johnson was dismissed for Blues in the second half.

However, Nicklas Bendtner brought the visitors level for a second time, but as the game entered the closing stages an own goal from Tebily gave Leeds the points.

Southampton are just a point off the leaders following a thrilling success over ten-man Burnley.

Things began well for the home side with Steve Jones netting, however, their hopes were dented when Wayne Thomas was given his marching orders.

Grzegorz Rasiak's seventh goal of the season brought the visitors level, but former Sunderland striker Andy Gray restored The Clarets' advantage.

However, that was as good as it got for Steve Cotterill's side as second half goals from Rudi Skacel and Rasiak's second ensured the win for The Saints.

Crystal Palace edged out Coventry City thanks to Clinton Morrison's second half winner after a fine turn and shot from outside the box.

The Sky Blues finished the game a man light after David McNamee collected his second booking late on in the contest.

Sunderland tasted defeat for the first time under Roy Keane after going down 3-1 at resurgent Ipswich Town.

The visitors took the lead through a Jason De Vos goal after 29 minutes, but it was all downhill for The Black Cats after that.

Darren Currie levelled matters soon after with a second half brace from Alan Lee giving the home side a neat cushion.

Sunderland's frustration boiled over and they finish a man down following Ross Wallace's sending off.

West Brom came from behind twice to claim a share of the spoils at Luton Town.

Rowan Vine had The Hatters ahead on two occasions, but levellers from Darren Carter and Zoltan Gera secured a share of the points.

Leicester's goalless draw with Colchester keeps them a point clear of Stoke, who slipped into the drop zone after defeat at Wolves.

Efforts from Leon Clarke and Seyi Olofinjana were enough to halt Wolves' slide while Stoke also finished a man down following Clint Hill's late dismissal.

QPR are out of the relegation places following a 2-0 over bottom of the table Hull City at Loftus Road.

The R's, now under John Gregory's stewardship, claimed the points thanks to second half goals from Ray Jones and Dexter Blackstock.

Norwich's poor form away from home continued after going down 3-1 at Plymouth.

An early own goal from Gary Doherty put The Pilgrims ahead and things went from bad to worse following second half goals from Marcel Seip and David Norris.

Rob Earnshaw did pull one back in injury time, but the effort was scant consolation for Nigel Worthington's charges.

Sheffield Wednesday find themselves second from bottom in the table after going down late on at Hillsborough to Derby.

Things looked good for The Owls when Chris Brunt first them ahead just after the hour mark.

Giles Barnes was then dismissed in what should have been the end of the visitors' hopes of getting a point.

However, veteran Paul Peschisolido equalised before a last-gasp winner from former Luton Town striker Steve Howard snatched the points for The Rams.
