Bruce: We were sloppy

Steve Bruce blamed Birmingham City's sloppy start to the game for their defeat against Hull.

Bruce chose to blame his own side's lack of discipline in bringing about their own downfall after Blues conceded a penalty and saw Radhi Jaidi receive a red card.

"We started off sloppily and gifted them a goal as far as I am concerned," Bruce told Sky Sports News.

"It got gradually worse from that, obviously culminating with being down to ten men after 20-25 minutes.

"All in all it was a very disappointing afternoon, we have to forget it and get on with it."

Bruce had no complaints with the referee for his decision to send off Jaidi and award Hull a penalty.

"We know the rules, I have no complaints. It was sloppy on our part to let the boy in.

"I have no complaints about the sending off or the penalty."

Dean Windass celebrated scoring his first goals of his second spell at his home-town club after rejoining from Bradford City.

Windass said: "It was a massive game for the club. There were a lot of wounded animals in the changing room after the Barnsley game but we responded well with a 2-0 win.

"We have been working hard to get the mentality of trying to keep a clean sheet.

"Obviously we got off to a great start today. All credit to the defenders they defended like Trojans and they never looked like scoring even with 11 men."
