Martin Taylor returned to football for the first time since his challenge left Eduardo da Silva with a broken leg with an outing for Birmingham's reserves.

The defender has been out of action due to a three-match ban for the red card he incurred for the tackle that left the Croatia international striker facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The length of Taylor's ban has been criticised by some, although having served his suspension he is now free to feature against Reading in the Premier League this weekend if selected.

Manager Alex McLeish was keen for Taylor to gain important match practice following his ban and he will have been pleased that the former Blackburn man played the full 90 minutes.

However, with Blues conceding three times in a 3-3 draw with Tottenham's second string, it remains to be seen whether he will return to McLeish's first team this weekend against The Royals.
