Birmingham manager Alex McLeish is confident Seb Larsson will still be at his disposal as he attempts to lead the Blues straight back into the Premier League next season.

The 23-year-old midfielder is currently with Sweden at Euro 2008, where he has the opportunity of earning a move to a top-flight side following the Blues' relegation.

But despite dropping down a division, McLeish is hopeful of convincing Larsson to stay at St Andrews and bolster their promotion push.

"I believe Seb is happy working with us and we're delighted with the progress he's made," he told the club's official website.

Strong league

"A year in the Championship is not a disaster for any player.

"We've got to pay the Championship the utmost respect. It's one of the strongest leagues in the world."

Larsson's close friend Mikael Forssell recently left the Blues for German side Hannover but McLeish does not believe that will be a factor as Larsson's decides where his future lies.

"Players come and go, mates come and go," he added. "It's about what's right for you."
