McLeish: Wants quality

Alex McLeish is aiming to add a creative midfielder to his Birmingham City squad before the start of the season.

Blues are determined to mount a push for an immediate return to the Premier League and McLeish wants to inject more quality into his engine room.

McLeish has money to spend after selling Fabrice Muamba to Bolton Wanderers and hopes his search for a playmaker will prove fruitful.

"I would still like to add some quality to our passing in the team," McLeish told the club's official website.

Right balance

"Last season we had some nice tidy passers, but we never really had anybody who could penetrate and that's maybe an area that we would like to improve upon.

"Some players are great passers and some are good at other things, so it's about finding the right balance.

"We've got three midfielders that are very similar from the point that they're defensive midfielders, so we'd be looking to try and add a bit of creativity in there.

"We have targets in mind, but it's not an easy player to find that type of player for the money we will spend on it."
