Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is pleased to have landed Djimi Traore and has hinted there could still be more signings.

The Portsmouth defender finalised a three-month emergency loan switch to St Andrews on Wednesday.

McLeish was not planning on adding another left-sided defender to his squad, but felt the deal to acquire Traore's services from Fratton Park was too good to refuse.

The former Hibs boss could yet bolster his squad further, with former Newcastle and Spurs man Stephen Carr linked with a move, as he still has funds available to strengthen.

"Djimi wasn't on the radar. He had been put into us, but I didn't think I needed a left-sided one," McLeish told Sky Sports News.

Favourable deal

"Then there was a very favourable deal to be done. We could get Djimi without it impacting on something else I wanted to do. That is the case.

"Karen (Brady) was quite happy to do the deal and assured me then the money was there to do that. There's still the possibility.

"You look at Djimi's pedigree, he's played with Liverpool and was at Rennes last year on loan. He's not figured much this season so we have to make sure he's at a good level of fitness before we consider him.

"It's an opportunity for him to show that he's fit again and over his troubles and he's competing with some of the other left-sided players here."
