McLeish: Praise for board
Alex McLeish has thanked his Birmingham bosses for making so much money available in the transfer window.
The Blues manager has already finalised deals for six players since winning promotion from the Championship.
A particular area of concern was the centre of defence and McLeish has managed to sign Roger Johnson, Scott Dann and Giovanny Espinoza.
Co-owner David Sullivan has pledged to continue backing McLeish if he feels he needs to strengthen his squad further and the Scot has been thrilled with their support.
"The money that we have spent has been exceptional in my opinion and the board deserve credit for that," McLeish told Sky Sports News.
"I really thought that we would get one centre-half and then I'd have to pull a rabbit out of a hat to get another one, and the board have pushed the boat out to get me three."
McLeish accepts that Birmingham cannot afford to get carried away and may still face a fight to stay in the Premier League.
"Spending millions of pounds doesn't guarantee anything and you just have to look at the casualties of the last Premier League," he said.
"But it is a very unforgiving league and if you don't have the players who want to be winners you are going to have problems."
