Maik Taylor remains hopeful he will be given a chance to win his place back in goal for Birmingham City.

The experienced shot-stopper has dropped down the pecking order this season following the arrival of Joe Hart on a season-long loan.

Taylor has been restricted to just one Carling Cup start this campaign, while Manchester City loanee Hart has featured in all four of their league games.

However, the 38-year-old Northern Ireland international is refusing to get down and is as hungry as ever to win his place back in the side.

Knuckling down

"It is a case of knuckling down, working hard and hopefully I will get an opportunity again," explained Taylor.

"I have been in a similar situation before and came back fighting. My aim now is to push Joe all the way.

"If I am offering competition to Joe that makes him perform better and gets us results, then great. It's not ideal for me, but at least I am contributing.

"Of course I want to play but my aim now is to be ready when the opportunity comes."
