Birmingham City have been rocked by the news that James McFadden could be out for up to six weeks.

The talismanic playmaker lasted just 45 minutes of the Blues' derby date with Aston Villa on Sunday before being forced off.

Scans have since revealed that the Scotland international has torn a muscle in his thigh and will require a spell on the sidelines in which to recover.

Early indications suggest McFadden could miss Birmingham's next five games, while he will also be forced to sit out an international friendly against Japan in October.

The news comes a major blow to Blues boss Alex McLeish, who has seen his side make a mixed start to the 2009/10 campaign.

"It's a big blow for us because he has been in great form since the start of the season," said McLeish.

"I'm not going to put any targets on his return. He will be back when he's back, but we have lost him for the foreseeable future."

Elliott Purdom (Birmingham City fan) says...

Sick note Sick note Sick note, its happened again Mcfadden injured what a suprise i feel sorry for the lad because his carreer has been plagued by them but this is a joke. The guy was awful last year in the championship and after a great start to the prem season hes out again like he was the year we got relegated. Can be brilliant on his day but will never finish a full season 6 weeks out more like 8 why cant Blues get fit players (dunn, forsell both was always out injured) some one hire a new club doctor!
