Ferguson: To meet McLeish
Barry Ferguson has admitted he will need to speak with Alex McLeish before deciding on his international future.
The Birmingham City midfielder has not played for Scotland since being banished by former manager George Burley following the 'Boozegate' scandal last April.
Craig Levein, appointed as Burley's successor late last year, has invited Ferguson back into the fold and he is considering a return.
The 32-year-old admits there is a lot to ponder as he does not want anything to damage his club career.
"I still have a lot of thinking to do and I am nowhere near making a final decision," Ferguson told the Daily Record.
"I am fully committed at present to Birmingham City. I want to give them a full season because they took a chance on me when people were knocking me down.
"There is a lot for me to take into consideration so far as internationals are concerned and it will take me a long time to decide what I am going to do.
"When Craig was appointed I said he was the right guy for the job and he is probably the only person I would consider coming back to play for in the future."
Ferguson has nothing but respect for Birmingham boss McLeish, who also had a spell in charge of Scotland in 2007, and plans to meet with him.
He would like to discuss a possible return to the Scotland set-up but fears that more international action could make it difficult to stay in the Blues side.
"I have to sit down with Alex McLeish because if it means that I go away on international duty and not play for Birmingham when I come back there is no chance of coming back," he explained.
"He is a guy I respect and he has given me time to go away and consider all my options."
