Joe Hart believes Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster would be a good replacement for him at Birmingham City next season.

World Cup hopeful Hart has spent the campaign on loan at Birmingham from Manchester City and was named the club's Player of the Year.

However, he is wanted back at Eastlands for next season, prompting Birmingham boss Alex McLeish to look elsewhere for a new keeper.

Reports have claimed that Foster will shortly complete a £4million switch to St Andrews after struggling for first-team opportunities at United this season.

Foster, who has missed out on a place in England's World Cup squad due to his lack of football, recently admitted he may have to leave Old Trafford to further his career.

Fantastic keeper

And Hart is confident that Foster is capable of making an impact at Birmingham, saying: "I think Ben will do it easily (follow me). He is a fantastic keeper.

"Ben has had some harsh criticism at Manchester United this season but, if he does turn out to be the Birmingham keeper next season, he will do a good job."

Hart wanted to remain at Birmingham next season, but accepts the final say was with Manchester City.

He said: "I just waited for my orders, and my orders were that I went back. I am contracted to Manchester City so that's where I will be.

"I will admit, it's sad. But it was out of my hands. If I could have stayed at Birmingham, I would, but it wasn't down to me.

"I didn't really want to leave, but I was told that I have to. It's just the way football is."
