Birmingham boss Alex McLeish is keen to bring in at least two more new faces ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.

The Blues boss has already bolstered his ranks with the arrival of goalkeeper Ben Foster from Manchester United and former Valencia striker Nikola Zigic.

Despite heading overseas to land one long-term target in the shape of Serbia international Zigic, McLeish prefers to invest his transfer kitty closer to home.

Backed by new club president Carson Yeung, the Scot is determined to establish the St Andrews outfit in the top-flight by bringing in players he can trust.

However, McLeish is all-too aware that the market value in the Premier League tends to be inflated as experience of England's elite division is coveted by many of his rivals.

"We're not done yet, we're still looking to enhance the squad, which is vitally important," he told the Birmingham Mail.

Prices

"We want to bring in another couple of bodies to the squad at least. I've gone into training a little bit light as it is.

"We have a few irons in the fire and we're trying to make some headway.

"The big thing for me - and always has been since January - was to try and concentrate on people we knew rather than go down that foreign market route.

"There are undoubtedly good players (abroad) but some can be real unknown quantities and I was hoping I could stick to the players I knew.

"The problem with that is in the Premier League the prices are very high.

"We have done Foster and Zigic, and we hope we can do another couple as well.

"I spoke to Peter Pannu (vice-chairman) at the time we did those and he said don't worry, the other targets will still be there for you to go and get."
