Birmingham's pre-season preparations continued to run smoothly after they recorded a 1-0 win over Chinese side Beijing Guoan at the Bird's Nest Stadium.

Alex McLeish's team are currently touring the Far East and their second successive friendly win came thanks to Garry O'Connor's solitary strike.

The Scottish front man was on hand to see off a Hong Kong XI on Sunday and the 27-year-old was in the right place to tap home his side's winner again eight minutes from time on Wednesday.

The former Lokomotiv Moscow man finished from close range after strike partner Cameron Jerome had seen his shot parried by the goalkeeper.

Blues summer recruit Nikola Zigic nearly bagged a goal for himself but was denied by the cross-bar, meanwhile O'Connor and Liam Ridgewel had efforts cleared off the line.

City were seldom troubled during their workout, although Ben Foster was forced to turn a free-kick onto the woodwork.
