Birmingham have wrapped up their deadline-day business by completing the signing of Chile international Jean Beausejour.

Skysports.com reported earlier in the day that the World Cup star was set to arrive in England after a fee worth around £4million was agreed with his club, Mexican outfit Club America.

And the Blues have announced they have secured the services of the 26-year-old midfielder on a three-year deal.

Beausejour had been on the radar of Blues boss Alex McLeish even before impressing in South Africa this summer so he is delighted to get his man.

"Beausejour is an excellent, left-sided midfielder who had a tremendous World Cup with Chile," McLeish told the club's official website.

Star player

"He was their star player against Spain and also played very well in a pre-season friendly against Manchester City recently.

"He has been on our list of targets for a long time because he is strong and quick with the ability to beat his man and get crosses in."

Earlier in the day, Birmingham signed ex-Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb on a season-long loan from Barcelona while Belarus centre-back Martin Jiranek joined from Spartak Moscow for an undisclosed fee.
