Championship leaders Derby remain six points clear at the top despite being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Hull.

The Rams could have extended their lead to eight points after Preston lost at home to Wolves, but they were pegged back by a late leveller at Pride Park.

Preston's loss also allowed West Brom to move into second place despite the fact they could only claim a home point against Southampton.

Derby had twice been ahead against Hull, firstly through Gary Teale as he fired home on the half hour - only for Andy Dawson to curl home a free-kick a few minutes later.

Darren Moore restored The Rams' lead in first half injury time but as Billy Davies's men looked set to seal the win - David Livermore levelled with just two minutes left.

Wolves moved to within three points of a play-off berth after a very good 1-0 win at Preston. The only goal of the game arrived after ten minutes when Nigerian Seyi George Olofinjana fired home after Preston failed to clear their lines.

North End's day was made even worse when Kelvin Wilson was shown a second yellow card with just a few minutes remaining.

West Brom find themselves in second thanks to their draw with Southampton as they moved above Preston on goal difference.

Kenwyne Jones had tapped in from close range to give The Saints an 18th minute lead - but Kevin Phillips levelled on the stroke of half-time to seal a point for Tony Mowbray's promotion chasers.

Cardiff missed the chance to move fourth after a 2-2 draw with Coventry at The Ricoh Arena.

Leon McKenzie fired The Sky Blues ahead after just eight minutes, but goals either side of the break from Michael Chopra (45 pen) and Peter Whittingham (58) looked to set Cardiff up for victory.

However, Cardiff then lost defender Glenn Loovens to a red card and they could not hang on with ten men as Dele Adebola (72) headed home to seal the draw.

Sunderland's Anthony Stokes registered his first goal for the club as he helped The Black Cats to a 2-0 victory at Plymouth.

The £2million man opened his Sunderland account with a sweet strike from 25 yards (69). Minutes later the visitors wrapped up the win as David Connolly struck.

Colchester remain just outside the play-off picture but they kept up the pressure on the sides above them with a resounding 3-0 win at Barnsley.

U's skipper Karl Duguid opened the scoring at Oakwell just three minutes in and it was 2-0 on 10 minutes when Jamie Cureton fired home. The win was sealed with just seven minutes left when Hogan Ephraim pounced.

Bottom of the table Leeds gave their survival hopes a real boost with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Elland Road.

Matt Heath headed Leeds ahead on the half hour before their lead was doubled late in the second half when Robbie Blake fired home after a good run.

Leon Cort pounced with seven minutes left, but that proved little more than a consolation for The Eagles.

Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday played out a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor.

Wade Elliott had put The Clarets ahead as he broke clear and scored on 55 minutes, but the home side could not hold on as just three minutes later Dean Burton headed home.

The final game of the day saw Leicester move five points clear of the relegation zone with a 2-0 success at Ipswich.

A goal in each half (28 & 56), both from the head of Gareth McAuley was enough for The Foxes to beat Town - who also had Owen Garvan sent off.
